Elementary School Ultimate

The popularity of Ultimate in middle and high schools has skyrocketed in the last 5 years thanks largely in part to the time and energy that Physical Educators have devoted to including Ultimate in their curriculum.

Ultimate teaches hand-eye coordination, teamwork and Spirit of the Game - skills that are valuable to all levels of development.

There are a variety of adaptations that can be done to the game in order to better serve Elementary aged participants. This page contains documents and materials that are specific to the needs of our younger players. Please use what you like and feel free to contact our Director of Youth Development anytime on suggestions for further adaptations or improvements.

Read and incorporate the Elementary Disc Skills Curriculum developed by Rhythms of Life, Discsports and the UPA in to your classroom.  Please e-mail Meredith Tosta for a copy of this free curriculum or go on online and download the document directly from Rhythms of Life.

Learn how to play Ultimate through Ten Simple Rules. You can adapt the field size, possession time or even the way in which possession changes to meet the needs of a diverse skill level of players.

Play! The UPA has recently approved two Youth Discs specifically designed for U-11 players. These discs are smaller and lighter in weight and are easier for smaller hands to grasp and throw. Discraft has just issued a press release regarding the new J*Star Youth Disc and production will begin this fall. Wham-O will have their new Youth Disc available soon, but in the meantime check out what Wham-O already has on the market here.
