TEAM HISTORY/SEASON RECAP

One of our cheers this year sums up our team as a collection of diverse individuals all united in the same athletic adventure. It sings:

"We are called the Berkeley Pie Queens.
We go to school at UCB.
We study people, plants, paint, the earth,
numbers and chemistry.
We dance like nobody is watching;
we squat 'til our quads burn.
And when we don our flair,
we put the disc in air,
cause we're an Ultimate team!"

Indeed, we are the 20 gals plus one amazing coach from Berkeley, California, who have come from all disciplines of study and various years of academic dedication who bond in our love of Ultimate. For seven of our players, this will be their first Regionals and Nationals. For eight of us, it will be the last chance to go for the gold. How have the Pie Queens come this far? The athleticism and heart of our Rookies have added fresh spirit and strength to the program, while they join and learn from one of the most talented pools of third, fourth and fifth-year players, who have established the high level of commitment and skill of the Berkeley Pie Queens. This year the Queens have appeared in three Tournament Finals: San Diego Prez Day Tourney, the nationally competitive (College Only) Centex in Austin, Texas, and The Santa Barbara Classic, which was our sole Championship win. This season's been a wild ride, and we are ecstatic to be a part of the Nationals crowd again! We'd like to give a shout out to Jock Jams, Journey, Phat Beats, Surfside, the makers of Boxer Briefs and Hanes Her Way, your mom, and remind you: Some people think we are a Fun Team; but the Fun is over. "...We're gonna scar and pillage the land, just like El Nino. We'll rock this city, 'cause it's good to be a Queen, yo!"
