Team History:
A rare landmark in women's ultimate was achieved this Fall.
A team was conceived in July and qualified for nationals
by October. In four months, Strike unearthed an inspiring
chemistry of youth and maturity, speed and patience, daring
and poise and remarkable spirit. Audaciously, they established
a goal to qualify for nationals. Strike has benefited from
the local women's winter league, the support of sister-team
Ozone, and a strong goaltimate league in Atlanta - all of
which helped cultivate this feisty roster of 18. Strike
began practice in August and set off for its first tournament
in Savannah. Under the Spanish moss, they won their debut
appearance and promptly shotgunned the trophy with gusto.
At Tune-Up, Strike welcomed the first truly competitive
trial. They suffered loss for the first time and took some
hard knocks of losing a few, key one-point-games, but returned
to Atlanta with new experiences and passion. Next on the
agenda was Regionals, where they had a significant challenge
to beat Texas competitors, Buttercup and Zanzara. The big
weekend arrived and butterflies danced. Saturday proved
to be joyful as Strike went undefeated in pool play and
upset Buttercup, 10-7. On Sunday, Zanzara was the next battle
and Strike avenged their loss at Tune-up by winning 13-9.
Losing to Ozone in the finals, Strike faced Buttercup again
in the “game to go” and prevailed with a 14-8
victory. With Strike reaching its goal, they're looking
forward to the sunshine, scenery, and opportunity to play
with the country's finest.
