Team History:
Our team name, OLD SAG, is an acronym for ‘One Last
Ditch Shot At Glory’ and that aptly describes our
reason for existence. In Y2K, a menu of Philly legends,
Sauce, Pickle, Nacho and others realized that they had,
not so quietly, aged into the Masters division and that
it may be their last shot. So a couple of Jim’s (no
relation to Jim’s Steaks) organized the foundation
for the team. The goal was to qualify for Nationals and
enjoy the ride.
The
next year we finished 9th again and our captain, Steve Wherry,
vowed to return with a team that would compete for a top
spot. His tireless recruiting among old (former?) Rage teammates
and other aging PADA summer league stars paid off in 2002.
The team jelled and captured the 2002 National Championship.
With another year under our belts, the sad reality is “you
can’t stop the sag.”
