Team History:
“Old” was started by Gary Foreman in 1988 as
a means for local Boulder/Denver players who were desirous
to compete in the prestigious Boulder 4th of July tournament
but unwilling to sacrifice the time necessary to compete
at the open level. Compete they did, often winning the B
division at a tournament that was once one of the top tourneys
in the nation. In 1998, more recent Open division retirees—Buzz
Ellsworth, Mike Morrissey, Randy Ricks, Brian Oliver, Chris
Payne and others —signed on and the gradual replacement
of the original Old lineup was underway. In 1999 the floodgates
opened when Bobby Pease agreed to co-captain and was joined
by Rob Bleiberg, Jim Glynn, Karl Heuerman, Geir Kvaran,
and others who decided it was time to give Masters a try.
That fall Old won UPA Gold in San Diego then went on to
win WFDF Gold at Worlds in Germany in 2000. Since that time
other local Colorado legends and unknowns have risen to
join “Old’s” roster and these stalwarts
have kept “Old” in the National arena, finishing
in the semis or finals every year at “the show”
since 1999. We hope and expect this year will be no different!
We share our name with an old bluegrass band and we’d
like to think our legacy has been, and will be, to maintain
a Colorado-style Grassroots dedication to USA Masters Ultimate.
Best of luck to all at the 2003 UPA Club Ultimate Championships!
