Team History:
Kaze (Kah-Zay) was born in the summer of 2002 as a Chicago-based
descendant of the offseason ensemble Tea and Strumpets.
Our first season was hindered by our late creation and after
winning Sectionals we stalled at Regionals to place 5th.
Disappointed but buttressed by memories of good times at
Dairy Queen, we resolved to return for another go round.
This year we came out early, found great fields and recruited
a lot of new talent with the intention of becoming a squad
worthy of a Nationals spot. Things were sketchy until around
August when our greatly revised offense and tough defense
started to make us look like a team; we still lost that
second day at Cooler but we invented our team drink, the
Mantonio (Root Beer+Vanilla Stoli), so the weekend was a
success. Thereafter we sent a small squad of 10 players
to Labor Day in Santa Cruz and had a heck of a time with
some great West Coast teams, going 2-5 on the weekend but
getting a damn good reality check of what we could expect
to see outside of our region.
Since coming home we made semis at Tune-Up, won Sectionals,
watched a lot of baseball and finished second at Regionals.
Having our emotions toyed with once again by the Cubs has
left us surly and prone to wild mood swings. We’re
looking forward to the welcome forgetfulness of warm sun,
friendly plastic and sweet sweet vodka in Sarasota.
