Team History:
A wise coach once said that championships are won in the
off-season. I wish he had been our coach. Since its storied
quarterfinals berth at the 2002 show, Atlanta’s Chain
Lightning has rested on its proverbial laurels. Now, don’t
get me wrong. I’m not saying that we haven’t
been preparing. I’m just telling you that we like
our laurels. In the words of our cockiest player, Timmy
Halt, “Why should we work harder and practice longer
when you’ve got me on the team. Get on my shoulders,
boys.” Even our captain, Crawford Shippey, is not
immune to such rhetoric. When asked back in May what he
thought we should do to get better this season, he calmly
stated: “Relax fellas. Our region has an extra bid
this year.” Our first practice wasn’t until
mid-September.
But,
seriously folks…we are young, fast, and fearsome.
And when we’re not being stupid, we’re pretty
smart. Chain is a name that Atlanta has carried into battle
since the early eighties, and we aim to please the links
that came before us. So, don’t be surprised if you
hear, off on a distant pitch in Sarasota on a clear, blue
day, the rumble of something amazing…kaboom!
